Frights and delights

This afternoon I took the kids out for what I promised Luca would be a dragon hunt of sorts...i.e., a library-sponsored tour of some of the gargoyles around the university.

I'd failed to factor in the hot and humid weather we've been having here, nor did I stop to think that "gargoyles" actually come in all sorts of fantastical shapes...tigers (the school mascot), several monkeys, dinosaurs, and even a footballer. (All still very cool though.)

Luca said it was "kinda boring and kinda interesting at the same time". Elsa surprisingly reigned in her complaints. They were both troopers when it came to satisfying what was really just my selfish whim...especially considering Luca's right flip-flop broke 5 minutes after leaving the car and he hobbled around campus with only one shoe. He said, "This would be like Jesus walking, right?"

I bought them treats afterward at a cash-only place...with no cash in my wallet. Which required yet more walking. I felt so guilty on everyone's behalf when we returned that I paid for their overpriced ice cream and TWO overpriced (mini) cupcakes.

  1. As someone who moved across the country & then across the world when I was a kid, these are the days they will remember! The days when everything goes perfectly will somehow just fade away, but the days like you had with them today will be recounted many times over! Thanks for sharing your adventures.
